'Not in My Name' - Burnley Youth Theatre

'Not in My Name' is a partnership project between Burnley Youth Theatre and the Hate Crime and Diversity Unit,

This is performed by a cast of young people from different cultures, aged 18-24.

The performance, which explores current and relevant issues of extremism and terrorism, will be touring the North West on the week beginning 1st September 2008 until 14th September and they would like to invite you to receive the project.

There will be a cost attached to the booking of a performance and this cost will cover the costs of the project only (see attached information). This cost will be reduced with multiple bookings. The performance is suitable for ages 14+. For further information see HERE




NWRYWU Young People's Leadership Project
Residential on
3rd - 5th October 2008 at Trafford Hall


The project is looking for groups of young people to take part in NWRYWU's Young People's Leadership Project.  The project aims to support young people to develop leadership skills through making films about issues affecting them in their communities.

During the residential they will receive film training, leadership training and plan their film project.

They are looking for groups of around 6 - 8 young people to take part in this project.  The project is well suited to groups of young people who do not normally become involved in, or receive the opportunity to become involved in youth participation.

British Council Project

The British Council is looking for young people aged 18 - 25 from youth organisations in the North West Region.

They would like organisations to nominate 2 young people who they feel would be interested in the following and be encouraged by the organisation to cascade the knowledge and skills developed in the community and to strengthen youth network.

As a youth organisation/young person are you interested in?
  • Active global citizenship to make a positive impact through youth empowerment and participation
  • Global and local development frameworks (including the 8 UN Millennium goals), peer training and project management skills in order to cascade information to others and build community projects.
  • Sharing ideas and projects with DTA participants in Africa and the UK, discussing and acting on issues such as improving livelihood opportunities and protecting the environment, face to face, online and through video conferencing.

Children in Need Funding Workshops

The Children in Need team in the North would like to invite you to a series of funding workshops to be delivered in various locations across the North of England during September and October 2008. The workshops will be delivered by Children in Need staff and will focus on the following areas:

Defining disadvantage
Involving Young People
Defining Outcomes
Creative Monitoring

The workshops are designed to increase the success rate of groups applying to BBC Children in Need for funding.

Ladies Only Swimming

at Trinity Leisure Centre in Carlisle

The ladies only swimming classes are up and running at Trinity Leisure Centre in Carlisle. Blinds have been put up by request so classes aer suitable for all women.

A female coach will be in attendance over the next few weeks to teach beginners.

Community Groups - get connected

with i4Broadband!

i4Cumbria have announced the availability of more internet ready computers for community groups, (only available in Allerdale at the moment). These computers can be installed in any location that has a broadband connection. There is no charge for any group that wishes to apply.

Community groups or interested parties should call 01900 607500 during office hours, for information about the computers and broadband for community groups, or the opening hours when they can go to Northside Community Centre.
